Powdered sugar: cups to grams

Powdered sugar, also called confectioners' sugar, is icing sugar with a little cornstarch added to stop it clumping. Because it is so light and fluffy, a cup weighs only about 113 g, a little over half the weight of a cup of granulated sugar.

1 cup of powdered sugar = 115 g

½ cup = 55 g · ¼ cup = 30 g · 1 tablespoon = 7 g

Sift after measuring

Measure first, then sift, unless the recipe says "1 cup sifted powdered sugar". Sifting first means less sugar fits in the cup.

Icing sugar is fine

UK and Australian icing sugar may not contain cornstarch, but it works the same in frostings and glazes.

Weights are for a level US cup (236.6 ml), spooned in, based on published baking ingredient-weight charts. Weighing will always be more accurate than any cup.
